サロン サテライトでよく目に着いたのは照明器具でした。
I spotted lots of amazing lamps in the Salon Satellite.


ユニットの組み立て式になっている天井ランプ。
This is a modular ceiling lamp; you can change the size or brightness by putting more or fewer units.


デスクの形のランプ。文字通り、デスク ランプ。
This is a desk lamp, yes, literally.


シルクハット型の吊りランプ。
Silk hat lamp.


折り紙ランプ。
Origami lamp.


折り紙のような幾何学的な壁ランプ。
Origami-like geometrical wall lamp. Great ambience.



繊細な切り紙ランプの数々。（いくつかありました。）
Such sensitive kirigami lamps! (There are few of them there.)


そして極めつけは！このランプ、電源はなんと中に入っている植物なのです。スイッチは、人間。人が近づくと植物はかすかな電流を流すのですが、それを利用したLEDランプです。考えたのはオランダのデザイン学生。あっぱれ！

And my favorite! This lamp is lit by electricity coming from the plant inside! The switch is you - if a human comes close, many plants run a small amount of electric current - this lamp uses it to light up the LED lamp. Concept and design by a student in the Design Academy Eindhoven.

なんと言ってもわくわくするほど面白かったのは、サテライトのコーナーです。サテライトでは、選ばれた駆け出しのデザイナーが新鮮なアイデアを発表しています。以下、そのうちのいくつかを。

The most fun I had at iSaloni last year was definitely at the Satellite exhibition. It is where selected young/new designers can sell their fresh ideas to possible sponsors. Lots of great designs! Below are some of the examples...

ヨーロッパが分かる地図：Map that explains Europe

うけました。的を得ていると思います。スイスが銀行、アイスランドがビョーク、ケルト海．．．Artwerk 作。

It made me laugh! The elements of European countries simply put in a map. Switzerland is 'Bank,' Iceland is 'Bjork,' and the Celtic Sea... Well done. Made by Artwerk.

まずはArtek。そう、フィンランド デザインの父 Alvar Aalto が愛妻と共に立ち上げた老舗の家具デザインのお店です。

First of all, Artek from Finland! Yes, the firm established by Alvar Aalto and his wife Eino... Simple idea to stack up the stools, and it works so well.



こちらはトーネットの曲げ木の椅子を扱っている会社のブース。ヴィヴィッドなオレンジに真っ白な椅子がよく生えますね。

This is the booth set up by a company dealing Tornet's bent wood chair. White chairs look so great in the vivid orange background!




それから、Vitra。イームズ等がデザインした家具をヨーロッパで造っている会社です。かっこいいミッド センチュリー デザインがたくさん．．．写っている時計は George Nelson のもの。

And this is from Vitra, the European manufacturer of Eames furniture, among other things. Wonderful Mid century designs... The clocks are by George Nelson.

今週は、世界で一番大きな家具デザインのイベントがミラノで開催中です。世界中の大手の家具会社が競って顧客を得ようとブースを出しているはず。余りにもの規模なので、何日間か歩いても全部を回るのは難しい位です。

This week the biggest furniture design event is happening in Milano. The most major furniture companies have booths to attract clients there - it is so large that you can walk around for days and still cannot cover everything.


本来は業界の人のための物ですが、２６日の日曜日（明日です）は一般公開されます。とても行きたい所ですが、今年は残念ながら参加できそうにありません。

It is meant for people in business, but on Sunday the 26th, it is open to the public. I really wanted to go, but unfortunately, I have to miss it this year.


去年は行ってきました。とっても楽しかったです。それまでは写真の中で観ただけだったソファや椅子を思い切り試し座りしてきました。

Last year I was there, and I had a blast. I could try sitting on sofas and chairs, most of which I only knew from pictures before.


これに続くいくつかのポストでいろいろと紹介しようと思います．．．

The Simpsons の切手：The holy-cow stamps

USPS (アメリカ合衆国郵便局)から、新しい切手が発売されました。The Simpsonsのがらです。

A new set of stamps have just came out in the US. They feature characters from the Simpsons! My favorite cartoon!


それにしても、郵便コストの値上がりはすごいですね。３年前は国内普通郵便は３２セントだったとおもうのですが．．．

By the way, the postal cost is inflating like crazy... If I remember correct, it was only 32 cents to send a domestic mail 3 years ago. Now it is 44 cents??

Max Bill

Max Bill (1908 – 1994) はいろんなジャンルで活躍したスイス人アーティストです。ありとあらゆる物をデザインし、絵も描き、建物や彫刻も創りました。バウハウスで学んだらしい、シンプルで機能重視のスタンスが明確です。

Max Bill (1908 – 1994) is a Swiss multi-genre artist. He was a designer (of all sorts!), painter, architect, and sculptor. He was educated in the Bauhaus style, and his works reflect the simplicity and function-oriented philosophy of the school.



そんな彼の作品には、科学的な影響も強く感じる事ができます。特に、数学と物理、中でも彼の若かりし頃に台頭した新しい物理の要素が多いです。なんでも、そんな科学的な自然界の法則を美術をもって表したかったとか。

His works shows additional influences, which are very scientific (especially mathematical and physical). He was inspired by the New Physics, which was coming out in his youth, and he wanted to conceptualize it in the form of arts.



曲線と直線を混ぜあわせて、とにかくラインの使い方がきれい！家具デザインは特に、その形と機能の呼応にうっとりです。この椅子なんて、重ねると棚としても使えます。

I love his lines - beautiful combinations of curves and straight lines. His furniture is incredible in its form and function. The chair can be stacked to be used as shelf!


そして、時計の数々．．．シンプルだからこそ美しいって、どういうこと？（笑）

And the watches... How can something be so simple and thus beautiful?

Black + Blum

Black + Blum に出会ったのは、このループと名付けられた美しすぎるキャンドル ホールダーからです。この支えになっているループの部分、実は黄金螺旋（どの点をとっても同角度の螺旋）なのです。

I first came across Black + Blum as designers of this beautiful candle holder. It is called "Loop," and the foot of the candle holder is Golden Spiral (= the equiangular spiral).


このデザイン オフィスはこの他にもいくつもシンプルでユーモアのある目にもココロにも愉しい作品を発表しています。例えばこのサラダ サーバー。植木鉢の部分はドレッシングを作る用です。

This design studio have offered many simple and humorous creations, which are pleasing to our eyes and minds! Here is a salad server set. The pot part is a dressing mixing bowl.


そして、スキー にヒントを得たというポテト マッシャー！

And potato masher inspired from ski sticks!

Dan Sunaga さんのコーヒーテーブル

ああ、又出会ってしまいました。ずん、っとくるデザインです。
須長壇さん（漢字？）のコーヒーテーブル２作。

高さが３段階に調整できる ITOMAKI table。いつか雑誌で見て一目惚れした作品です。



そして新作の、Newton Table。どうです、この曲線の美しさ！



ダンさんは、スウェーデンで学び、その後 ヨーテボリにスタジオを立ち上げられたそうです。

クラッシック ブリティッシュ デザインの切手

ブリティッシュ デザインを代表する作品を集めた、素敵な切手シリーズが登場したそうです。ミニに、アングルポイズ、ペンギン文庫．．．納得のセレクション。かっこいいです。ロイヤル メイル、やりますな。

Tord Boontje's "Little Field of Flowers"

家具デザイン大好きなんですが、眺めてるか試してみるだけで満足で手に入れたいと思う事は少ないのです。でも、これにはすっかりやられてしまいました。Tord Boontje の "Little Field of Flowers" カーペットです。フエルトで出来た葉っぱや花々が敷き詰められていて、そのアイデアにも美しさにも、もう、完全にノックアウトです。
