今日は、進化学の父、人類の自己像を永遠に変えた、チャールズ ダーウィンの２００歳の誕生日です。一世紀以上経った今でも、彼の唱えた考えは論争を引き起こしていますが、信じられないほどのデータを集めその根底にあるパターンを見いだす事からなされた彼の研究は、今でもただただ圧巻です。どこまでも客観を貫いているようで、社会や宗教界に波紋を及ばす事を意識したような解釈は見受けられないのです。最も気をつけて避けたことを疑われる事になったのは、皮肉としか言えません。彼の功績をどうとるにしても、その影響は否定できないです。チャールズさん、誕生日おめでとう！
Today is the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, the man who changed our life and how we look at it forever. His theory is controversial, even after more than one century since it came out. Also his work, which consists mostly of amazing amount of data collection and pattern or theme recognition, is still vividly impressive. It appears strictly objective, and there is not much sign of any purposeful interpretation to challenge the society or religion. It is ironic that he is accused of a crime he was least likely to commit. No matter how you take his thoughts, you cannot deny his influence. Happy birthday, Darwin!
